Proposal to Rename James Madison Memorial High School

At its Regular meeting on November 22, 2021, the Board of Education took action on the recommendation from the Ad Hoc Citizens’ Renaming Committee to rename the school to Vel Phillips Memorial High School. Chair Julian Walters was also present on behalf of the Ad Hoc Committee membership.

The Board of Education appreciates all the time and dedication the Ad Hoc Committee members showed during its four-month-long process evaluating all the proposals, reviewing all the public feedback, and for their passionate and respectful deliberations that led to this decision.

Planning and implementation of the new name will commence immediately and will continue through the beginning of the 2022/2023 school year.
